DAY 2: Start the day with breakfast at Saltycrax Backpackers and then, let us show you the reasons why Cape Town has become such an amazing culinary destination! Your first stop is in the city for a coffee tasting and tour of the oldest artisan coffee roasters in South Africa. From here we head to theCompany’s Garden for a walk about and some local snacks, before heading off to Woodstock – a vibrant hidden gem on the outskirts of town - for a craft beer & food pairing. Now for some thing sweet, because... Why not! A tour of a chocolate factory, complete with tasting and a hot chocolate to follow. After your sweet-tooth has been satisfied we head back to the city to start our walking tour up Bree Street, Cape Town’s coolest strip, coveted by locals and tourists alike. Along the way we will sink our teeth into South Africa’s favourite snack, biltong, before heading off to the iconic and colourful district of Bo Kaap. Here you will sample the delights of the Cape’s Eastern traditions, including samoosas, koeksisters and an amazing array of spices. Finish the day off with a wonderful cheese platter accompanied with a sample of SA’s best wines whilst chatting to the cheesemaker. In the evening, you can join the staff, guests and the locals at one of the restaurants or bars along the beachfront in Table View – all within rolling distance from the hostel where you will be staying the night.
DAY 3: After Breakfast, make your way to the city to meet our wine lords. On your trip, you will get to visit between 3 - 5 wine estates in different areas of Stellenbosch (the oldest town in SA). Some of the estates are only visited by locals with the others being world famous. The Vineyard walking tour will guide you through the process from grape to wine in your glass. Learn the steps of tasting wine and pairing food with wine in a fun and relaxed manner. Take part in a comprehensive cellar tour at a world-class estate and enjoy the drive through the world-famous wine town itself. At selected farms you will be able to pair Local cheeses with selected wines. Finish your tour off with a hearty lunch served in the middle of the scenic winelands. End the day knowing that you tasted plenty wines and local food treats but most of all experienced world-renowned estates as well as rare gems showing you a “behind the scenes look” of our unique wine culture. Make your way back to Blouberg to spend your next night with us.
DAY 4: Help yourself to breakfast before getting collected from the hostel for your Township tour. The wealth of culture, the historical development of our townships and the traditional history in the everyday life of our township residents is a priceless resource that has been incorporated in the local tourist product to the mutual benefit of tourists and local residents alike. After the tour you will be dropped off at the V&A waterfront where you can explore the harbour, do some shopping or visit Robben Island (Optional extra). Tour highlights include District six Museum (optional), Langa township (Family hostel, Shebeen, Traditional healer) Via Bonteheuwel (Coloured township), Gugulethu (Gugulethu the seven and Amy Bihl memorial) and Khayelitsha (Philani Centre, Pre-school). In the evening take an Uber/Taxi down to the Rockwell Dinner Theatre and get ready to be transported into a world of dazzling entertainment, featuring ‘world-class’ local performers. In the evening, take a taxi down to the Rockwell Dinner theater. Here, experience a 4 course buffet dinner offering of the best culinary experiences that traditional Cape cuisine has to offer, while being entertained by an exciting musical show “Kaapse Stories from the Mother City” (“Kaapse” meaning Cape). This one-of-a-kind musical dinner show is written and directed by Basil Appollis and will give you an inspiring insight into the "rainbow nation" of Cape Town.. The show takes you on a roller coaster through its blend of humorous storytelling, powerful emotional songs, and charismatic performers unique to only Cape Town. After the show, spend the night out in Long Street, Cape Town's party hub, or make your way back to the hostel for a good night's rest after an exciting and busy day.
DAY 5: The Bo-Kaap district is today’s stop, renowned for its brightly coloured houses and the scent of delectable spices wafting through the air. This area of Cape Town is home to many Cape Malay people. They are known for their vibrant culture that derives from their South East Asia heritage. This is the perfect area to pick up some local spices as you roam the vibrant streets of the Bo-Kaap with picturesque Table Mountain as your backdrop. Meet Gamidah, a local South African who will welcome you into her home with open arms. You will prepare and indulge in a variety of traditional Cape Malay dishes–her love for food and people will encapsulate you as she talks you through the different food items and recipes. After all the eating you will arrive back at the backpackers where you can share your stories from the past few days over a drink with the other guests.
